SM Reveals 2nd Member Of New Girl Group aespa—Here’s Everything We Know About Her
The next member of SM Entertainment‘s new girl group has been revealed, and you may have already seen her before. Here’s everything we know about aespa‘s Karina.
Unlike aespa’s first member, Winter, who showed off a unique blonde-and-blue dip-dyed hairstyle, Karina seems to be sporting luscious, naturally black hair.
She’s shown in the same fantasy land depicted in Winter’s teaser, surrounded by ethereal and glowing CGI foliage.
It seems all the members’ teasers will be following the same theme, including the final image giving off a more mature vibe. Here, Karina is seen bathed in neon lights.
Now you’ve met Karina, are you getting a sense of déjà vu? If you’ve been following updates on SM Entertainment’s new girl group, you’ve likely seen her before under a different name—Yoo Jimin.
Yoo Jimin likely took the stage name Karina to avoid confusion with BTS‘s Jimin. Born April 11, 2000 (making her international age 20 years old), Korean member Karina has been training under SM Entertainment for four years.
Fans believe she may be the company’s oldest trainee, making her the most likely candidate for the leader position. Other positions fans think she may debut with include lead vocalist, lead dancer, and visual.
Karina’s talents are so impressive, she began performing on stage long before her debut. Back in 2018, she featured in SHINee Taemin‘s “Want” music video and music show performances—and she killed it!

Karina’s known to be a fan of both singer-songwriter IU and labelmates f(x). If her visuals caught your eye, you won’t be surprised to hear she was an ulzzang before joining SM Entertainment.
Despite being a trainee, Karina was recently caught up in accusations. You may remember the recent controversy surrounding the young starlet, in which she was accused of insulting numerous idols over text message—including NCT, EXO, and BTS.
However, several weeks ago, SM Entertainment released a statement dismissing the claims as “malicious rumors“. The company informed fans they were already engaging with a legal firm and launched a slander case with help from the Gangnam Police Station.
Since then, many Korean netizens have implored others not to judge Karina before she makes her debut. International fans are praising her incredible visuals…
