Netizens Shocked By Appalling Number Of Female Artists Attending “SMTOWN 2025”

Fans are disappointed by SM’s treatment of female artists.

Last year, SM Entertainment announced they would hold an SMTOWN concert in Seoul. The SMTOWN Live in Seoul concert is special as it celebrates the company’s 30th anniversary.

The concert will kick off in Seoul on January 11-12 at Gocheok Sky Dome before heading to other countries later this year.

The event attracted attention the moment it was announced, and the line-up was one aspect that was hotly discussed. Initially, it seemed that many groups would perform at the event.

As more details of the line-up have been released, fans have expressed disappointment with SM, starting with it being revealed that Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon would not attend.

Girls’ Generation Taeyeon’s Reason For Not Attending “SMTOWN Live In Seoul” Infuriates Fans

Recently, Red Velvet‘s Wendy revealed she would not attend due to personal reasons, which has led some fans to take stock of the female artists attending.

Of the currently active girl groups under the company, aespa appears to be the only one who will attend in full. Red Velvet are currently set to perform as four following Wendy’s announcement, bringing the total to eight.

Girls’ Generation‘s Hyoyeon is the only member of the group announced to be attending, while S.E.S‘s Bada seems to have answered the invitation for past SM artists to attend. BoA also has confirmed she will be attending, and Min Ziwoon, an artist under SM’s subsidiary, KRUCIALIZE, brings the total number of female attendees to 12 as of writing.

For comparison, the number of male artists exceeds 50, and even excluding the members of NCT, SM’s largest group, still leaves the number of men attending at double that of women.
