Jeon Somi’s Past Comments About YG Artists Resurface Following Her “Controversial” Tweet

Solo artist Jeon Somi‘s past comments about YG Entertainment artists resurfaced following her now-deleted, debate-sparking tweet.

On December 7, Somi responded to a fan’s tweet that mimicked a trend where the OP would list a group of artists they didn’t like and include one they did.

The tweet in question named several YG artists as “f*ck you” and praised Somi. Somi responded to the tweet, saying, “yay they like me.”

The soloist has since deleted the tweet, but it sparked an intense online debate. Some thought her response was shade toward the artists listed, while others insisted she meant no harm and the reply was just a joke.

Somi is an artist under The Black Label, a sub-label of YG making many of these artists her labelmates.

Now, the idol’s past comments about some YG artists in an interview have resurfaced.

In June 2022, Somi was interviewed by Complex as part of their Goat Talk series. GOAT stands for “greatest of all time,” and she was asked to name “GOAT” foods, places, and songs.

 

Somi was asked who she considered a “GOAT K-Pop legend” and she answered Teddy Park, producer, and co-founder of The Black Label.

The soloist mentions that Teddy has made some awesome hits and referenced his involvement with other YG alumni, BIGBANG, 2NE1, and BLACKPINK.

I personally think that 1TYME is a K-Pop legend, aka my boss Teddy. He has made some awesome hits and made legendary K-Pop groups like 2NE1, BIGBANG, and BLACKPINK.

While Teddy did not “make” the three groups, he was involved in the writing and production of many of BIGBANG’s, 2NE1’s, and BLACKPINK’s hit tracks over the years.

Some have expressed they did not like the phrasing of her statement, especially in light of the tweet “controversy.”

On the other hand, this clip aligns with the previously expressed idea that Somi was joking with her tweet, as she has expressed her respect for some of the idols mentioned.

It’s so obvious Somi was joking around. Probably in bad taste cus of the tweet she replied to, but come on. We all know she hangs out with other YGE artists.
