Actor Son Suk Ku’s New Rom-Com K-Drama To Feature The Biggest Age Gap Yet

Despite the saying “age is just a number,” the age gap between lead actors in romance K-Dramas remains one of the most debated topics among viewers. Over the years, K-Drama viewers have become more aware of these age differences—and possibly more inclined to prefer casts with similar age ranges.
That said, JTBC‘s upcoming rom-com Heavenly Ever After has been revealed to feature one of the biggest age gaps in K-Drama history. Heavenly Ever After follows the story of 80-year-old Lee Hae Sook who reunites with her husband, Go Nak Joon, in heaven.

Seasoned veteran actress Kim Hye Ja portrays Lee Hae Sook, a senior citizen who arrives in heaven and chooses to remain in her 80-year-old form when asked to pick an age—all because of her husband’s last words telling her that she has never been more beautiful.
What awaits her, though, is Go Nak Joon—played by popular actor Son Suk Ku, who actually chose to go back to his 30s. The two then must navigate their second married life in heaven.

Between Kim Hye Ja and Son Suk Ku, there is an age gap of 42 years.

Despite this massive age gap (one unprecedented in the history of rom-coms), the series is already generating high expectations as director Kim Seok Yoon and scriptwriters Lee Nam Kyu and Kim Soo Jin present a unique plot that explores “life after death” with heartwarming and humorous twists.

- “This setting is so creative, haha. This looks good!”
- “Grandpa went to heaven and came back as Son Suk Ku?!”
- “Worth noting that director Kim Seok Yoon made this K-Drama specifically for Kim Hye Ja. And then she personally chose Son Suk Ku to play her husband.”
- “Looks like this will be another masterpiece of a K-Drama from Kim Hye Ja, following The Light In Your Eyes.“
- “Grandpa going back to his 30s by himself is hilarious. I’m so excited for this!”
- “This has the same masterpiece vibe as The Light In Your Eyes and My Liberation Notes.”
- “Another life-changing K-Drama is in the making!”
Heavenly Ever After is set to air in April 2025. Watch the trailer here:
