Song Hye Kyo Admits That Her Visuals Got Her Into The Entertainment Industry

Song Hye Kyo has consistently ruled the Korean entertainment industry as one of its top actresses over the years. While her acting prowess has cemented her status as an industry icon, it was apparently her visuals that helped her get into showbiz as a teen!

Recently, the actress appeared on the YouTube channel of singer-songwriter Jung Jaehyung as a special guest to promote her upcoming movie, Dark Nuns. During their conversation, Jung asked if she always dreamt of becoming an actress, to which she bluntly responded, “Being an actress wasn’t my dream.” She added that as a student when she had to write down her future aspirations, she usually wrote “designer” because she was clueless about her own career ambitions.

But it seems that fate had already planned her path. Song recalled that she and a friend at school had decided to answer an audition call for a school uniform model in a teen magazine. She got a call back later and went with her mother.

At the venue, there were many aspirants who were much more prepared than she was. “They were doing their makeup and preparing all sorts of things,” she recalled, adding that she had no makeup on since she thought she would need to look like a student.

Though initially both Song and her mother gave up any hope of passing the audition, she ended up winning the first prize and modeled for the magazine. “That’s how it started naturally,” she explained.

Jung chimed in the story, saying Song “must have been a standout” for her beauty. The actress bashfully replied, “It’s hard for me to say that myself.”

Once her standout visuals landed her on the teen magazine pages, Song explained that she got connected to an agency and “naturally entered the industry.” Since then, she has started attending auditions and almost immediately landed her role in the popular sitcom Soonpoong Clinic, which made her a household name.

While her visuals might have been a deciding factor in jumpstarting her acting career, from Soonpoong Clinic to The Glory, Song has proven that she’s an actress worth her salt with every new project. Her newest movie, Dark Nuns, with actress Jeon Yeo Been, is slated to be released on January 24 across theatres in South Korea.
