Girl Group Member’s Husband Caught Cheating—Admits And Apologizes

He was reported to have kept the adulterous relationship going for almost a year.

In December 2024, Japanese media outlet Shukan Bunshun revealed in a bombshell exposé that baseball team captain and infielder Sosuke Genda of the Saitama Seibu Lions had been in a relationship with a woman in her 20s working at a high-end nightclub in Ginza.

According to the exposé, Sosuke kept the adulterous relationship going for almost a year—and even went on dates with the woman while he was on the “Premier 12” tour in Taiwan.

Sosuke is married to Misa Eto, a former member of J-Pop girl group Nogizaka46 turned TV star. The two tied the knot in 2019 and have two children together. In other words, backlash grew fierce and fast.

Soon after the exposé, Sosuke took to his Instagram and admitted the “distress and grief” he caused his wife. While pointing out some false information in what was reported, Sosuke apologized for his “careless actions.”

I would like to offer my sincerest apologies to baseball fans and all involved for the concern I have caused with my careless actions. I also deeply regret having caused my wife such distress and grief. Although what has been reported by the media isn’t all true, I have spoken directly with my wife about this matter, and we have resolved to move forward together. We’re looking forward with determination.

From now on, I will work hard on changing myself and giving back to those who have been inconvenienced. I will focus solely on baseball, practicing at the Tokorozawa facility as usual. To the Lions fans and the Lions organization I have let down, I will do my best at each and every game to regain their trust until the end of my baseball career. I am truly sorry for this.

— Sosuke Genda

Likewise, Misa Eto also shared via her social media that the two have discussed the situation and “have decided to move forward together.”

I apologize for causing concern over my husband’s and my private matters. After repeated discussions between us, we have decided to move forward together. I will continue to support my husband so he can focus on his baseball career.

— Misa Eto

Understandably, both baseball and J-Pop fans remain disappointed in Sosuke:
