South Korea Slammed Again For Yet Another “Bullsh*t Fix” Amid National Emergency

Doing everything except what will actually fix the problem…

On June 19, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol addressed the nation’s birth rate in shambles and declared a “national emergency” on population. The “solutions” discussed at the meeting of the Presidential Committee on Aging Society and Population Policy, however, are getting slammed for being irrelevant.

At the meeting, South Korean government officials are reported to have suggested that elementary school students be forced to stay at school until late evening (known as 야간자율학습, or 야자 for short, meaning “nighttime self-led study hall”)…

…to give their parents a higher chance of having intimate time, and so, conceiving babies.

In the past, nighttime study halls have been forced upon high school students since the 1960s. While, through the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of schools have opted out of mandatory and/or coercive study hall attendance, it does remain within legal boundaries.

The officials are also reported to have suggested a measure to exclude foreign and/or female housekeeping and childcare providers from the nation’s minimum wage laws. In response, the public transport union stated in a press release, “Treating immigrant workers as slaves by not paying them the minimum wage is an archaic idea.”

Koreans are, inevitably, flabbergasted by the suggestions.

  • “Wait, no. I get it. South Korea is behind the big picture for Planet Earth. The government is pioneering human extinction. What an eco-friendly nation!”
  • “I wonder how they even come up with sh*t like this… If women cannot make minimum wage, they have to work longer hours to make ends meet. So how does keeping their first-born at school until late night lead to more babies?”
  • “What kind of bullsh*t fix is this?”
  • “It’s incredible how with each and every solution they devise, they sound dumber and dumber.”
  • “So we want to abuse our existing children in response to our birth rate being shattered. Got it.”
  • “I’m starting to wonder if they come up with these ideas by spinning one of those wheels… because these are starting to sound like random ideas being combined together to be presented as solutions.”
  • “…?”
  • “Is our goal to have the birth rate hit 0.00%?”
  • “I’m cackling. Are they f*cking serious?”
  • “I would almost think that the government wants to be mocked and criticized at the same time.”

This is not the first time Korean government has come up with less-than-logical solution for the crisis at hand. Read more about another “bullsh*t fix” that was proposed earlier in June.
