“Squid Game” Actor Spotted At A Prison In Texas
Sometimes, Korean celebrities are found in the most unexpected places at the most unexpected times. Actor Yang Dong Geun‘s fans would agree that his latest sighting in Texas would be one of those cases.
Squid Game Season 2 cast Yang Dong Geun, whose convincing take on the villain role in the K-Drama Moving received tremendous love and support, was spotted at a prison in Texas, leaving a deep impression on the stateside inmates.
Earlier in November 2024, Yang—as part of the “Prison Fellowship Korea” (PFK)—attended the prison’s worship service and addressed the inmates. PFK’s US executive director, Jay Won, explained that Yang encouraged and consoled over 100 inmates through messages of hope and music. According to the director, Yang was dubbed “the second Kanye West“ by the inmates, who were “deeply moved…with tears in their eyes.”
PFK ambassador Yang Dong Geun participated in the prison’s Sunday worship service and sincerely addressed the inmates, wishing them peace of heart. He then performed a song with the message, ‘to heal the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, and freedom to those who are bound.’ The inmates were deeply moved, giving him a standing ovation with tears in their eyes. Some even remarked that it felt like seeing a global rapper, a ‘second Kanye West,’ offering the highest praise. The prison staff also requested that he visit again if the opportunity arises.

This is not the first time Yang Dong Geun has been to a prison. In 2023, Yang also performed in front of 347 inmates at the Yeoju Somang Prison’s summer retreat. During this event, over 2,000 inmates were moved to tears as they sang the gospel hymn “Siloam” together, creating a deeply emotional atmosphere.
