“Squid Game” Season 2 Becomes The First Show To Bag Rare Netflix Achievement
After taking the world by storm in 2021, Squid Game returned for a second run on December 26, 2024.
Since the first season’s success was so overwhelming, there were concerns about the second season matching up to it. Squid Game 2 already faced multiple controversies before its release, mostly related to its cast members. Fans were appalled after finding out the show featured an actor who is a convicted sex offender, while former BIGBANG T.O.P’s appearance also sparked some major backlash.
Even after the show’s release, it has faced criticism regarding its characters and plot. Many fans claim to have found the show boring.
Despite these roadblocks, Squid Game 2 has achieved a rare feat, the first of its kind on Netflix. Only a day after its release (in US time), the show ranked #1 in all 93 countries where Netflix is available.
Korean netizens have reacted positively to the news, though some admitted they personally found it lacking compared to the first season.
- “Even though I didn’t watch it, it’s good if it’s doing well.”
- “Since season one did well, of course, people felt like they should watch it…but the reviews aren’t good.”
- “Since it’s a Korean show, it’s nice that it’s performing well.”
- “It’s definitely not as good as season 1, but I still enjoyed it. I’m wondering if season 2 will end here. I’m also curious about season 3.”
- “At the end of the day, I’m happy that a Korean show is doing well.”
Meanwhile, a third season of the show is already in the works, and director Hwang Dong Hyuk has already spoiled a major plot point. Read more about it here.
