Stray Kids' Changbin Admits To Feeling "Really Stressed" While Writing "Chk Chk Boom," Shares What Helped

Stray Kids‘ Changbin was the most recent guest on Hyo’s Level Up, the YouTube channel hosted by Girls’ Generation‘s Hyoyeon.

The younger idol eventually touched on the creation of their new title track “Chk Chk Boom” which was also made by the other 3RACHA members Bang Chan and Han. He shared that it took only a few hours to conceptualize but many more to revise.

The creation was really fast, a few hours, but there were many revisions.

This song apparently made him “really stressed” to write. Changbin admitted to feeling pressured whenever he has to write a track meant for the entire Stray Kids to sing.

Without thinking of it as a team song, I just made what I wanted. I was really stressed while making a team song.

To combat this mental block, he decided to simplify things and create a hip hop track instead. This lessened the pressure on him while still making it possible to present a song that could be changed to fit the group.

So, I made a hip-hop track and it became a team song. We developed it a lot more.

Hyoyeon followed up with another question related to his songwriting process: “When you play the song for the members, if more than half approve, does it become a team song?”

Changbin replied that it depends on a number of factors. Besides majority of the members approving of the track, the company has to choose it as well.
