Stray Kids’ First-Week Album Sales Show Dramatic Drop From Previous Peak

They’re not the only ones.

Stray Kids released their most recent album, ATE, on July 19 with the title track “Chk Chk Boom”.

The album has been performing quite well on music charts and in terms of streaming, and has the highest number of first-week streams by a K-Pop artist on Spotify for 2024 so far.

However, now that the first week since its release has passed, the data for its sales have revealed that Stray Kids has joined what seems to be an ongoing trend for K-Pop album sales in the last several months.

To date, their best-selling album has been 5-STAR, which reached a whopping 4.62 million first-week sales and remains the second best-selling album by a K-Pop group in that first week’s time. Their next album (and the last one they released before ATE), ROCK-STAR, saw a bit of a dip in first-week sales, reaching 3.70 million sold in that time.

ATE, meanwhile, has shown another decrease in the group’s sales. Their first-week sales number came in at about 2.37 million, a drop of about one and a half million since ROCK-STAR.

Here’s how the first-week daily sales for ATE and ROCK-STAR compare.

ATE‘s sales numbers are similar to what the group was seeing in late 2022, making it their third best-selling album at this time.

While this is a pretty significant drop in sales, though, the fact that Stray Kids is still breaking the two million sales number is incredibly impressive. Album sales are seeing a decrease across most K-Pop artists these days, with different factors post-COVID likely playing a big role.

  • “It’s still good though.”
  • “Is there a decrease in the overseas fandom?”
  • “Three or five million is bizarre.”
  • “Most groups seem to have decreasing sales.”
  • “Sales have fallen a lot lately, but it seems to be especially bad here.”
  • “It’s good that sales are going down, it was weird.”
  • “Even though it’s fallen, it’s still two million…”
  • “Eh, it’s still over two million, but honestly, I think the sales inflation should go down even more.”
  • “It’s f*cking good…”
  • “It’s still inflation, it has to fall further, it’s still not normal.”

Do you think the decreasing sales seen for many K-Pop artists is a good thing?
