Sulli’s Family Releases Statement In Response To Kim Soo Hyun’s Press Conference

Actor Kim Soo Hyun held a press conference on March 31, 2025, where he denied having dated Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor. He claimed to have only dated her from when she was an adult. Before the press conference, the late Sulli‘s family had also been seeking an apology and explanation from Kim Soo Hyun. Kim Soo Hyun did not address Sulli, her family, or the movie Real during the press conference.
Following the press conference, the bereaved family of Sulli has expressed their stance in response to the highly-publicized press conference.
On the 31st, in an interview with TV Report, Sulli’s brother stated that they were unsurprised at his performance.
“Kim Soo Hyun’s press conference was so predictable that it wasn’t even surprising. We watched it expressionlessly. Due to the controversy surrounding the late Kim Sae Ron, the media became noisy. There were many posts that seemed to refer to my sister’s situation, which caused us stress. Seeing the struggles of Kim Sae Ron’s family, we wanted to provide some support in any way possible. There’s also personal frustrations we wanted to address.”
He reiterated his previous queries that he wanted Kim Soo Hyun to answer.
“Real raises three main questions. First, the script was not fully finalized. Second, there was a body double for the exposure scene, but they were reportedly unable to come to the set due to illness. However, the double was actually on-site, and the scene was supposed to be filmed with them. So why was the scene shot the way it was? We still don’t have an answer.”
Lastly, he admitted that there were many factors in Sulli’s self-harm that the family themselves do not know about for sure.
“It cannot be definitively said that it was solely because of Real or Kim Soo Hyun. It is a well-known fact that she suffered from malicious comments after the movie was released. There were also personal aspects to her struggles. We believe that director Lee Jung Sub holds the key points regarding Real. Whether or not Gold Medalist will respond remains uncertain, but they should recognize that staying silent will have a negative impact.”
Real was a movie starring Sulli and Kim Soo Hyun. During post-production, the directorial role shifted from Lee Jung Sub to Lee Sa Rang (now known as Lee Ro Be), a co-founder of Gold Medalist and a Kim Soo Hyun’s cousin.
Real is mostly remembered for Sulli’s nudity and bed scenes, as the film was heavily promoted with them. As a former idol from a major entertainment company and a visual member of her group, her involvement in such scenes attracted significant attention.
