Sunmi Fires Back At Netizens Who Claim She Isn’t Really Composing Her Upcoming Album
It was recently announced that Sunmi will be coming back in August with a self-composed song. This attracted the ire of netizens who began criticising Sunmi for her decision to take part in the creative process.
This caused Sunmi to take a screenshot of the negative comments and caption it with a lengthy rebuttal. She also posted a specific comment that said idols like Sunmi don’t contribute to their “self-composed” songs and it is instead the co-writers and arranger who do the bulk of the work.
She started by talking about the value of creative vision and leadership.
No matter the format, creating something is a very difficult process. You also need help from many people in various ways. But if the lead person doesn’t know what story they want to tell, can’t understand what they want to express, can’t explain it and can’t carry it out, then the people who work for them become confused.

Sunmi then finished by talking about the personal effort she puts into her music.
I do not put on the apperance of working on music just to put my name on the album credits. I think hard about each part of the process of making lyrics, melody, arrangement, and album. I refine it, fix it, and complete what I’m trying to express. It is your personal prejudice that most idols including me are like that and I hope it is not believed as true.

This isn’t Sunmi’s first foray into music production as she co-wrote lyrics for Noir, Siren, Heroine and Gashina.
