Survival Show Mentor Calls Out “Unfair” System After Final Winners Announced, Earns Mixed Reactions

He also compared the teams.

Over the last few months, the survival show Universe League has aired, showing the process of debuting a new boy group. The program featured a sports-like system where teams would be formed through drafts, and members traded.

The show’s finale took place on January 24, and the winning team, along with the two highest-scoring competitors from other teams, were announced to be the nine members of All-Time Hall Of Fame (AHOF).

Following the show, one of the mentors of one of the teams that did not win shared his thoughts, seemingly calling out the show.

Each of the three teams — Rhythm, Beat, and Groove — had mentors called “directors” who were already established idols. The directors for Team Beat were GOT7‘s Yugyeom and HYBE producer El Capitxn (also known as HISTORY‘s Yijeong).

After the show, El Capitxn spoke about his team in a series of messages, praising their performance even though they “knew they wouldn’t win.”

The moment I found the kids the most touching and beautiful was when, to be honest, they knew the system was structured in a way they couldn’t win. As it got closer to the end, the results became clearer, didn’t they? Anyone who’s not a fool would realize it.

But when you look at their performance,
out of the three teams, their movements were the biggest,
their group choreography was the most synchronized,
and they clearly practiced and discussed everything in the most detailed way.

Everyone knows that, but they still gave their best until the very end.
That’s why they were so beautiful to me.

— El Capitxn

Reactions to his messages were mixed, with some agreeing with his criticism of the system while others did not like his comparison of the teams.

Survival show’s methods have often been questioned by viewers, and it seems Universe League is no different.
