T.O.P Initially Had Negative Feelings About Playing Thanos In “Squid Game 2”
With the return of Squid Game, a whole new batch of stars has received global attention.
This includes T.O.P, who returned to acting to play Thanos, a popular, love-to-hate character in the show’s second season. T.O.P had been missing from the industry for many years following his drug scandal and departure from BIGBANG.
On January 15, the star sat down with the media for his first interviews in many years, discussing topics related to the role and his life.
T.O.P expressed gratitude towards director and creator Hwang Dong Hyuk, whom he says showed trust in him to take on the role.
For almost 10 years, I felt no one looked at me, but director Hwang Dong-hyuk reached out to me first. The trust (and) the belief he had in me gave me the courage to take this on. As an actor, it is my duty to repay the trust. Excelling in my performance is another assignment in my life.

Though T.O.P excelled in the role, he initially had misgivings about playing a drug-addicted character. However, in what seemed to be fate, T.O.P says he was pulled by “destiny” to the part.
The offer to play Thanos was a daunting proposition. The character mirrored my past, reflecting aspects I’d rather keep hidden. The fear of being pigeonholed into one role made me hesitate. But destiny seemed to be pulling me in this direction.

T.O.P taking the role has put him in front of a global audience that seems to be welcoming him with open arms.
