TripleS Members Terrorized By Fan Attack, Confusing Apology Fuels More Backlash

TripleS fans are now demanding the management, MODHAUS, to ban the attacker from attending future events.

On the final night of tripleS‘s fan concert, during an encore performance, Xinyu and Lynn were terrorized by an audience member who decided to throw a fan at them.

In the video clip that captured the moment, tripleS members are seen interacting with the audience when a plastic handheld fan flies toward Xinyu and Lynn’s faces, hits Xinyu in the head, and falls behind them. Xinyu and Lynn react with surprise while their teammates rush to check on Xinyu’s face.

You better blacklist the as*hole who threw that.

The clip went viral, with tripleS and other K-Pop fandoms calling out the audience member who threw the fan.

After this, she kept holding her hand over the area where she was hit. Imagine what would have happened if it actually hit her eye.

Soon after, an X (former Twitter) user—alleged to be Gong Yubin‘s fan—emerged with an apologetic statement admitting their fault in terrorizing the group.

“Hello, I am the fan who threw the fan on stage. I am sincerely sorry. I apologize a hundred times and more, even if that will never be enough.

On Sunday, during the encore performance on the final night of the fan concert, I threw it knowing I should not. And it almost hurt the members.

A lot of other people in the audience were throwing their slogans toward the stage, so I also threw the fan. The guards said not to throw anything, but when I saw other people throwing the slogans, I acted out and threw the fan. And it almost hit the members. I was not intending on hitting the members with the fan. But what was done was done, and the members almost got hit with the fan that I threw.

The other fans threw their slogans, which is light material. But I threw a fan, which is a big bulky item. That makes the fan much more dangerous, and it means I should have been more careful. But I was not being cautious and I ended up throwing it at the members.

After the concert, I felt guilty that I almost hurt the members. So I messaged them and apologized via Fromm. I am so sorry that I ruined the concert and that I almost hurt the members.

Even if the members weren’t hit, it almost did hurt them. And that ruined the night. I’m truly sorry. I’m sorry that I put them in a situation that could have led to a series incident. I will never throw fans again, and I will never cause trouble like this ever again. Again, I ruined the final moment of the concert when it should have been fun. I am sorry to disappoint the other WAVs and the members.”

The first statement sparked fierce backlash for downplaying the situation—claiming the fan did not hit the members, as well as being confusing, grammatically convoluted, and rather incomprehensible. The said fan apologized again with a short tweet and a second statement…

I accept all criticism. I admit that I did hit a member, not ‘almost hit.’ But there were other members who were almost hit, too. And that is my fault. It is absolutely my fault that the fan did hit the members. I’m sorry.

…though it still remains unaccepted. The “updated” version of the apology included some changes, such as admitting the fan did hit some members, but ultimately, the message remains the same.

Other tripleS fans are demanding the management, MODHAUS, to ban the fan from attending future events. Meanwhile, Xinyu took to the group’s communication platform and assured WAVs that she is fine.

This is not the first time an idol group fell vulnerable and even hurt from items being thrown on stage. Such irresponsible behavior has been discussed multiple times among K-Pop fans and are frowned upon—though, clearly, it has been impossible to eliminate.
