Here Are The Two Fourth Generation Female K-Pop Idols “True Beauty” Webtoon Artist Yaongyi Uses As Inspiration
In 2020, one of the hottest K-Dramas of the year was none other than tvN‘s adaptation of the popular webtoon True Beauty. The series starred ASTRO‘s Cha Eunwoo (also stylized as Cha Eun Woo), Moon Ga Young, and Hwang In Youp. It quickly gained attention worldwide and netizens fell in love with the story.
Although the K-Drama might have ended, the webtoon is still being published weekly by the artist Yaongyi. Since the K-Drama started airing, Yaongyi has gained a lot of attention for her work and has showcased her charisma on many occasions, sharing TMI about the webtoon.
Recently, Yaongyi appeared on the April 13 episode of MBC’s Radio Star alongside the likes of WINNER‘s Mino. During the episode, the artist spoke about everything from the time she accidentally revealed her age through the webtoon and much more.
Yaongyi revealed something that was definitely interesting for K-Pop fans. During the interview, Yaongyi revealed that because the webtoon is still released weekly, she has to reflect the characters and their fashion by ensuring it is up-to-date with current trends.
In particular, Yaongyi revealed that two current fourth-generation female idols currently influenced her when drawing the main character Lim Ju Kyung, and it was none other than IVE‘s Jang Wonyoung and NMIXX‘s Sullyoon.
Although it is the first time Yaongyi has mentioned Sullyoon, considering the idol has only recently debuted, it isn’t the first time netizens have believed the inspiration might come from an idol. When Yaongyi first came into the public eye, many netizens found out that she was a fan of IZ*ONE, the group Jang Wonyoung was a member of until they disbanded.
However, as her bias seemed to be Minju, many thought that she was the inspiration.

However, the similarities seem more obvious now. Netizens have even found side-by-side comparisons of the webtoon character and images of Jang Wonyoung, and the inspiration is hard to miss.
Considering that both Jang Wonyoung and Sullyoon are both seen as the “Visual Queens” of the fourth generation of idols and always look fashionable and chic, it isn’t surprising that they are the inspiration for the recent episodes.
Hopefully, now that netizens know about the influence, they can keep an eye out and see if they actually notice similarities between the main character’s looks and those worn by Jang Wonyoung and Sullyoon.
