Japanese Adapation Of “True Beauty” Triggers Mixed Reactions
True Beauty is reportedly getting a Japanese adaptation.
True Beauty is a beloved Naver Webtoon by Yaongyi. In 2020-2021, tvN adapted it into a K-Drama, becoming an instant hit due to its lead actors, ASTRO‘s Cha Eunwoo, Moon Ga Young (also known as Mun Ka Young), and Hwang In Youp. Now, it’s reportedly getting a Japanese live-action film adaptation.
The 21-year-old model and songwriter Kōki, the daughter of actor Takuya Kimura and singer Shizuka Kudo, is rumored to star in the Japanese remake of True Beauty. She is to play the lead character, a high-school student who has a complex regarding her appearance and transforms through her makeup skills to avoid suffering bullying.
According to a film industry source, Kōki truly transformed for her role since she usually wears natural-style makeup. They added that she was unfamiliar with average Japanese school life since she attended an international school. Although it might be perplexing at times, she has enjoyed acting in the role so far.
The news has been met with mixed reactions online. Some are eager to see Kōki in the lead role.
Many die-hard fans of True Beauty are excited about the potential reimagining of the story.

Others feel True Beauty is overrated and continually adapted unnecessarily.
