TWICE Didn’t Expect To Ever Hit It Big After Their Debut, Here’s Why
TWICE‘s popularity cannot be underestimated. Not only do they have numerous iconic songs and award show wins, they also have millions of followers online and sell out all of their concerts.
But surprisingly, they once had no inkling that they’d hit it big!
The girls explained why in a recent interview with American magazine Cosmopolitan where they shared how much they’ve changed, discussed their fashion styles, and reminisced on their debut.
According to main dancer Momo, their debut song “Like OOH-AHH” unfortunately didn’t chart well when it was first released. She felt disheartened and started to think that they’d never succeed.
When we came out with ‘Like Ooh-Ahh,’ it didn’t do so well at first, so I didn’t think that we were ever going to get big.
— Momo
Leader Jihyo similarly recalled how the scores weren’t at the top of the charts. Afterwards, she decided to have no expectations. She could have never guessed how famous they’d end up being.
‘Like Ooh-Ahh’ didn’t top the chart right away. I had no expectations. I didn’t imagine our future.
— Jihyo
Considering that they are under one of the biggest entertainment companies in K-Pop, JYP Entertainment, and had just finished a grueling reality show called Sixteen, the result must have been disappointing.
Little did they know, “Like OOH-AHH” would end up becoming one of their most popular title tracks to date with their music video raking in over 450 million views on YouTube.
It goes to show that even if the results may not be great now, the future may hold something different. TWICE’s immense success is proof!
