K-Drama "Twinkling Watermelon" Viewers Feel "Robbed"

TvN K-Drama Twinkling Watermelon released its finale this week. It starred Ryeo Un as Eun Gyeol, Choi Hyun Wook as Ha Yi Chan (also romanized as Ha Lee Chan), Seol In Ah (also romanized as Seol In A) as Choi Se Kyung, and Shin Eun Soo as Yoon Cheong Ah (also romanized as Chung A).

High school student Eun Gyeol (Ryeo Un) has hearing-impaired parents, but he has a gift for music. He is a model student by day and plays the guitar in a band at night. One day, he visits a mysterious musical instruments store and travels to a strange place. There, Eun Gyeol meets Ha Yi-Chan (Choi Hyun-Wook), Choi Se-Kyung (Seol In-A) and Yoon Chung-A (Shin Eun-Soo). They form a band called Watermelon Sugar. Meanwhile, Ha Yi-Chann has a crush on Choi Se-Kyung, who is known as the Cello Goddess of Seowon Arts High School, and tries to win her heart. Yoon Chung-A is hearing-impaired. She is cold and aloof to others.

Most viewers were happy with the finale. Although Eun Gyeol could not prevent his father’s accident as he hoped, when he returned to the future, he realized that his family not only existed but was living a happy and fruitful life.

Still, there was something that viewers felt was missing: more interactions between Eun Gyeol’s dad and mom, Yi Chan and Cheong Ah. Before we returned to the present day, we saw Yi Chan in the hospital while Cheong Ah was traveling abroad with her father, causing viewers to worry about the two being separated.

Yet, when Eun Gyeol returned to the present day, the parents were clearly still together. They had gone to the same school! However, we didn’t get to see them together since the dad was making a presentation while his wife was in the audience with her children.

Now, tvN has released still cuts from what appears to be a deleted scene. It showcases the couple’s relationship.

Cheong Ah apparently caught Yi Chan on a group blind date with friends while he was in college!

A behind-the-scenes clip of Hyun Wook filming the scene, acting as Yi Chan, apologizing has also been revealed.

Twinkling Watermelon fans are begging tvN to release the scene. They’re hoping that tvN is actually teasing a special episode or potentially releasing a spin-off focused on the parents’ college years.
