How Two Korean Teenagers Brutally Killed Grandmother In Front Of Their 90-Year-Old Grandfather
Back in 2021, two Korean teenagers — respectively 18 and 16 years of age — stood in front of a judge after being accused of brutally murdering their grandmother. They stabbed the 77-year-old to her death in front of their own grandfather (who was 90 years old at the time).
The event took place in August 2021, and to this day, it often resurfaces and haunts Korean netizens and forums.
According to what the two killers claimed in court, the conflict was sparked after their grandmother — who was raising them on limited government support and contributions from their mother — criticized the boys for not using their school meal cards as intended and expressed frustration over their focus on video games. She often rebuked them, saying, “If you studied as hard as you played games, you’d be at the top of your class.”
She would also tell them, “You’ll need to move out once you’re 20 years old.”
Frustrated by her reprimands, A messaged B via KakaoTalk around 10:26 PM that night, saying: “Let’s kill grandma.”
According to police findings, one of the teenagers had even searched online how to instantly kill a person before going ahead with their crime. Ahead of the murder, one of the brothers had made sure to close all the windows (at the request of the other) so her screams would be muffled and hard to hear. Early next morning, “A” assaulted the grandmother as soon as she left the shower. In the end, the victim suffered more than 60 stab wounds.
The two teenagers committed the crime in front of their paralyzed grandfather, who begged for mercy and asked them to take her to the hospital. However, in a fit of rage, one of the teenagers even threatened to stab him, too — but “B” intervened and stopped it from happening. Thankfully, the elderly man was able to contact the police.
Following the murder, the two brothers cleaned the bloodstains and attempted to mask the smell with cologne. Despite the emergency team’s efforts, their grandmother succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward.
My brother did nothing wrong, please be lenient.
— “A” about “B” during the final hearing
The teenagers were caught and underwent a grueling trial during which the prosecution sought life imprisonment. In January 2022, they received their sentences: “A” would face a maximum of 12 years and a minimum of 7 in prison, while “B” received a suspended sentence thanks to his “lesser role” in the brutal crime and rehabilitation efforts. Now, “A” is expected to be released in August, 2028.
