Although K-Pop idols are entertainers, for many K-Pop fans, they are much more than that. They are forms of escapism from the hardships of life, a source of inspiration and role models.
Recently, TXT‘s Hueningkai has been gaining attention from netizens worldwide after posting a TikTok, cementing that idols can help many people.
On November 11 (KST), Hueningkai posted a video on the group’s official TikTok account with the caption, “Eat with me.”
During the video, the group’s maknae shared what he ate in a day from breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner.
Although it might seem like a simple video, it meant a lot more than some might expect for many fans. In particular, it was helpful for those MOAs and netizens who are or might be fighting through eating disorders.
When the video was posted, fans shared how Hueningkai’s video had helped them. Many shared that this video helped them regain the strength to eat properly. Alongside this, others shared that they used the clip for motivation to form healthy eating habits and even added that by watching him, they felt less alone when eating.
Yet, despite initial thoughts that Hueningkai was unaware of the impact he was having after releasing his TikTok, it seems as if he was aware of the difference it was making to fans.
On November 16, Hueningkai shared his response to one MOA’s comment on TikTok with the caption, “It’s okay not to be okay.” In the video, Hueningkai was singing along to Jessie J‘s track “Who You Are,” which is a track that focuses on loving yourself even if it might be challenging.
For years, K-Pop has been criticized for being too controlled and that agencies force idols to create specific content. However, netizens couldn’t stop praising Hueningkai’s newest video. Personally addressing how he felt about his video being used to help people with eating disorders was touching for many.
However, it isn’t the first time the TXT members have has used their influence and popularity to help fans.
In September, Beomgyu replied to a fan who explained that the group had helped them when they were suffering from depression. By remembering his own experiences, he explained that depression could make life hard and come in waves, but not to be ashamed.
Don’t be ashamed, and since you did nothing wrong, why don’t you talk more seriously about it? We’ll continue to work hard so that we can give you more strength!
