TXT’s Yeonjun Responds To Claims That TXT Is Only Successful Because Of Big Hit
TXT‘s new song “LO$ER=LO♡ER” is finally here, and it’s already drawing acclaim from fans and non-fans alike. However, not everyone has such a positive attitude about TXT’s impressive success. At the recent The Chaos Chapter: FIGHT OR ESCAPE press conference, Yeonjun responded to claims that TXT is only famous because of the group’s company: Big Hit Music.
Rewind by a decade, and you’ll reach a time where no one would have called a Big Hit Music group privileged. While early artists under the label certainly enjoyed their own successes, the agency was considered one of K-Pop’s small companies—until the advent of BTS.
Since BTS rose to stardom, HYBE (the Big Hit Music parent company formerly known as Big Hit Entertainment) has become the highest-profiting agency in K-Pop, reaching ₩457 billion KRW (about $392 million USD) in sales this year alone with a ₩36.6 billion KRW (about $31.4 million USD) net profit. As such, since before TXT even debuted, the rising group has been plagued by accusations that they’re only successful because they’re signed to Big Hit Music.
In the group’s recent press conference for their upcoming album, Yeonjun touched on this view and how the members deal with it. “The biggest burden is when we hear that our success was only made possible because of our label,” says Yeonjun. He went on to admit that, “Of course, the company is a nice security for us.”
But while it can’t be easy to have your undeniable success dismissed as “Big Hit privilege,” Yeonjun doesn’t let that get him down. Instead, he revealed that the TXT members do their best to overcome such comments. “Instead of avoiding this type of attention,” he explained, “I believe that we will be able to prove ourselves with our music if we gradually continue to try.”
The young star added that they’ll continue to focus on this endeavor, “Even if it takes some time.” As long as it may take, Yeonjun says, “I think fighting slowly is my method“—in reference to new album title The Chaos Chapter: FIGHT OR ESCAPE.
Of course, many would argue that TXT has already proved that they’re more than just their label. With numerous singles under their belt, from bright pop “Crown” to deep rock “LO$ER=LO♡ER,” TXT have been wowing fans with their music since their debut and continue to prove that they’re worthy performers, songwriters, and artists.
During The Chaos Chapter: FIGHT OR ESCAPE press conference, Yeonjun also opened up about whether the success of BTS puts pressure on them as a group.
