Much of Korea is currently reeling from the effects of typhoon Hinnamnor. The super typhoon ripped through the country, making landfall in the city of Geojae in the Gyeongnam province at 4:50 am on September 6.
The super typhoon exited the country early Tuesday morning, about 2 1/2 hours after entering through the southern coast. In its wake, one man is missing, and thousands of others are evacuated.
The man, who is 25 years old, is reported to have gone missing in Ulsan. According to reports, the man fell into a stream at 1 am. It is said the man was under the influence of alcohol.
In total over, 15,000 people were asked to evacuate. It is also stated that over 20,000 homes were without power. Many uploaded their encounters with the typhoon to their social media.
Seoul is also being affected by the wake of the typhoon, as many of its biggest roads and highways were closed this morning, affecting the morning commute.
The typhoon, expected to be the strongest ever in the country, ripped through the country with an atmospheric pressure of 955 hectopascal at its center, with a maximum wind speed of 40km per second. It has been reported that the strength of the typhoon was similar to the 2003 typhoon Maemi, which devasted the country.
It is reported that 948 mm of rain downpoured onto Jeju, with 389 mm falling on Gyeongju, and 272 mm in Seoul’s Gangnam district.
