Upcoming Group Goes Viral For…Saying Gay?

More evidence that Gen-Z idols have no filter.

When it comes to going viral, a few things consistently work for idols. From visuals to showing off their skills, there can be a bit of a formula for gaining attention.

Other times, it is literally the most random sh*t possible, like in the case of one upcoming group.

In 2023, Kenny, a former contestant of Asia Super Young, was announced as part of the Singing Beatles‘ new boy group. Four additional trainees were added to the line-up now known as 1VERSE.

They have yet to debut but are very active online and often interact with fans, sharing content as well.

Recently, members Kenny and Nathan shared a photo with the caption, “Two dudes chilling for an hour 5 feet apart cus they’re brothers.

The caption is a reference to a video from the now-defunct platform Vine, where YouTuber Anthony Padilla records two men sitting apart in a hot tub as a funny potential commentary on “social homophobia,” which includes the fear of being perceived as gay.

The members of 1VERSE’s reference of this did not include the word gay, which led some fans to question if they were able to say it due to K-Pop idol sometimes being censored by companies.

Kenny replies, saying that they are but repeats that they are brothers. This leads another fan to challenge Kenny to say it…

…which he does, several times in a row. This tweet went viral, earning over one million views and thousands of other interactions. Many netizens who were not aware of the group previously expressed interest after this, amused by the comedy in the tweet.

Though the 1VERSE’s debut has not yet been officially announced, it seems they’ll keep netizens entertained anyways. And continue to say gay.
