Vampire Weekend Unexpectedly Covers BTS
American rock band Vampire Weekend is on their 2024 “Only God Was Above Us” Tour. They recently performed at the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh, NC, on October 9.
Ezra Koenig read a sign reading, “BTS J-Hope will be released from federal custody in exactly 1 week. Please cover ‘Dynamite’ to celebrate?” Ezra knew that J-Hope would be discharged from his mandatory military service, so he attempted to fulfill the request.
Ezra knew it wasn’t Taio Cruz‘s “Dynamite,” but he wasn’t as familiar with BTS’s “Dynamite.” He appeared to know “Butter” better. Still, he and the band attempted to give their best cover. Ezra also gave a shout-out to J-Hope.

The video went viral across TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). Netizens couldn’t get over the ARMY’s sign, claiming J-Hope would be released from “federal custody.”
While concert-goers had to attempt to help Ezra remember the “Dynamite” lyrics, fans were appreciative that he had such a good attitude and attempted to cover the song, although he wasn’t confident in his knowledge of it.
This would not be the first time we got an unexpected crossover between the two bands. In May, Ezra praised BTS leader RM for nine minutes on his podcast after reacting to RM’s sharing of Vampire Weekend’s “Capricorn” via Instagram.
“RM is not only a member of bts..he’s a major creative force in the organization. maybe like one of the songwriter-producer, (…) so i’ve always heard specifically things about RM & RM’s creativity…” – ezra koenig of indie rock band ‘vampire weekend’ about RM in his podcast pic.twitter.com/539uf88WxZ
