When asked if portraying such a character had any effect on her perception of marriage, Jang admitted that she always thought marriage was a difficult decision and that conflicts were unavoidable in any cohabiting situation.

I think marriage is a difficult thing. It’s bringing two lives together after living separately for as long as 40+ years. And it is possible to end up enemies—even with one’s parents or siblings. So, of course, it is difficult.

She, however, also acknowledged that marriage is a miraculous affair, but that doesn’t mean divorce should be villainized either. At the end of the day, she added, it all boils down to one’s choices.

I think starting [married life] in itself is a miracle. It’s also an incredible feat to maintain it…I also feel that there’s no reason to look at divorce in a negative light. One of my lines in the final episode was, ‘Whether you get married or get divorced, it’s a choice. The effort to make the best of that choice is up to me. I should do my best, and if it doesn’t work out, then I can make another choice.’ I really resonated with that.

But in her real life, Jang Nara admitted that her marriage is as happy and healthy as it could be.

I’m happy. I’m extremely happy…My husband is the talkative one. I used to be quieter, but he enjoys sharing his daily routine with me.

As a professional in the same industry, Jang said her husband often becomes very critical when watching her K-Dramas, because he is usually more focused on the technical aspects of the production. “Thankfully, he said I did a great job in this project,” she added, revealing that her husband had encouraged her a lot to take on the role in the Good Partner.
