Wanna One Don’t Realize They’re Being Filmed, Joke About Getting Handjobs From Fans
A video of Wanna One members joking and swearing at each other emerged. While most parts of the video can be seen as “young boys being boys”, a specific comment about receiving free handjobs is causing some outrage online.
The group was due to appear on a live broadcast called Star Live and were waiting to start, but didn’t realize the camera was already on.
Member Woojin held up a selfie stick like a mic and pretended to do an interview with the members. Not realizing that they were on air, they started complaining about not receiving payment, having packed schedules and lack of sleep.
Then Kang Daniel took the mic and yelled, “I took a dump this morning!”
A voice that sounded like Park Jihoon started reading out his phone number one by one while Ha Sungwoon‘s voice started randomly saying “f*ck” over and over.
“I should get all the cursing out before we start. F*ck, f*ck, f*ck, f*ck!” — Ha Sungwoon’s Voice
Lai Guanlin talked about a sasaeng fan, asking why the person came to their house. When someone yelled “why are there sasaeng fans?“, someone replied “Free handjobs?”
Most netizens think it’s a disgrace that the boys acted like that in front of staff, but some think it was all just a joke so isn’t a big deal.
But there is some discussion over the slang term for “handjob” that can be heard in the video. The origin of the word and it’s proper use isn’t exactly clear.
The above is asking whether the “handjob” word is slang for dating. The user commented that they had heard the term being used on Highschool Rapper. But others think it’s a dirty slang word from Busan.
It has also been brought up that it could be a misunderstanding as the word sounds similar to “answer me”.
"I listened to it slowly over and over for an hour and it wasn't that, it was Kuanlin saying 'answer me!' I hope many people can know this."
t/n: 대딸각 and 대답해라 sound similar and his pronunciation isn't perfect so that + low quality made it sound like a different word https://t.co/bX7xpIFweE

Either way, the video caused quite a stir and Wanna One posted a response personally apologising for their comments.
“Hello, it’s Wanna One. We’ve posted this to personally say sorry to the fans who love and cheer for us. We are sorry for disappointing you by showing you all an inappropriate side of us during today’s live broadcast. We will deeply reflect on this matter. In the future, we will be cautious of our actions and be a more mature Wanna One. We will not forget the excessive love you give us and we will be showing you a better side of ourselves. Again, we are sorry for disappointing you and causing worry.” — Wanna One
YMC asked for the fans’ continued support, and explained that the members don’t usually use this kind of language.
“We are so sorry that the unfortunate event took place right before the broadcast of Star Live. We’re sorry that we disappointed the fans who continued to love and support Wanna One and their latest comeback. We think it’s unfortunate that the language that they usually don’t use was broadcasted, blown out of proportion and spread. We will do our very best to prevent something like this from happening again. We ask everyone to help love and support the Wanna One members, so that they can fulfill their dreams until the end.” — YMC Entertainment
Mnet also apologized to Wanna One and their fans for letting something air with technical difficulties.
“In regards to the broadcast that aired today, we would like to apologize to Wanna One, as well as all the fans who love and adore Wanna One. We will do our best to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again in the future. We once again sincerely apologize to Wanna One and everyone who support the group.” — Mnet Entertainment
