Yubin and Hyelim Will Not Renew Contracts With JYP Entertainment, Leave Agency
JYP Entertainment has just announced that former Wonder Girls members Yubin and Hyelim will follow in the footsteps of Sunmi, HA:TFELT, and Sunye, leaving the agency after over a decade.
In their announcement, they thanked Yubin and Hyelim for their time with JYP Entertainment, and wished them well in their future endeavors.
Hello, this is JYP Entertainment.
We would like to announce that our exclusive contract with Yubin and Hyelim expired on January 25.
We have held in-depth discussions with both Yubin and Hyelim over the past few months, and we have come to the agreement of not renewing our contract together.
Yubin and Hyelim joined Wonder Girls in 2007 and 2010 respectively, and formed their bonds with JYP Entertainment.
Since then, Yubin has renewed her contract twice, in 2014 and 2017, and has been a representative artist for JYP Entertainment for the past 13 years.
Hyelim also renewed her contract in 2017, and has showed off her talents in various fields, from music to MC’ing.
When the Wonder Girls first challenged the United States music market, K-Pop was a genre that was foreign to most music fans.
In 2009, Wonder Girls made K-Pop history by becoming the first K-Pop group to have a song enter the Billboard Hot 100 with “Nobody”.
That will be remembered forever as pioneering the barren K-Pop market in the United States, and paving the way for countless junior artists to enter the overseas market.
We are honored and grateful to accompany such great artists.
All of the achievements we have made with Yubin and Hyelim have served as a foundation for JYP Entertainment’s growth and blooming.
Their brilliant path was made possible by the fans who showed their love for a long time.
We would appreciate it if you could send your undying love to them, who will be continuing on their new challenges in another place.
As we have always done, we will continue to support their future.

Wonder Girls debuted in 2007, but neither Yubin nor Hyelim were in the initial debut lineup. Yubin was added to the group after HyunA left, just prior to their first album The Wonder Years. Hyelim was added to the group in 2010 after Sunmi left to pursue her studies, and her first album was “Two Different Tears”.
