ZEROBASEONE Sparks Drastically Split Reactions Over Their Recent Encore Performance

“If a girl group sang like this they would get trashed.”

On May 21, ZEROBASEONE took home their first music show award for “Feel the Pop” on The Show, making this their fourth win in total.

As with most music show wins, the group was then tasked with singing an encore performance of “Feel the Pop” with minimal backing vocals support. Encore stages have been the source of many debates in the K-Pop industry, especially recently, as they give idols an opportunity to show off just how strong their vocals are… Or expose some areas where they might be lacking.

“Feel the Pop” is a particularly challenging song due to the numerous falsetto parts that several members have to pull off. You can watch the entire encore performance below to take a listen for yourself.

The reaction from their fanbase seems to be pretty positive. Based on many retweets of the performance, one would assume that there was little to critique about the members’ live vocals and that they pulled off a difficult song flawlessly.

But if you look at other reactions elsewhere, the vibe is much different. A lot of netizens were quite critical of the performance, especially for some members more than others. Some even stated that they think if this had been a girl group, they would be seeing more backlash.
