For many, Zico’s “Any Song” was seemingly the start of the trend. He promoted the track through a follow-up point choreography challenge with MAMAMOO‘s Hwasa, and it became a huge success. Since then, the “challenge” trend has become basic marketing in the music industry, and even now, three years later, it Is still a major publicity tool for new songs.

Recently, Zico appeared on the show Point of Omniscient Interfere. At one point, Zico shared his “apology” about inadvertently creating such a buzz with his video, which seemingly helped to create the “TikTok challenge” culture.

The rapper shared that idols usually used the time between performances to relax, but now they “have” to go and meet other idols because of the challenges and know each other’s choreography.

Usually, singers have to rest or practice in the waiting room during breaks. But these days, they have to meet colleagues during that time (because of the dance challenge) and know each other’s choreography.

The main OP understands the burden Zico could’ve felt because now it seems like everyone is taking time to do these “Perfect” challenges and learn everyone’s choreography. Yet, they also pointed out how positive the challenges are, sharing that many underrated tracks have gone viral because of TikTok.

While Zico may or may not have “created” the TikTok challenge, he definitely contributed to the popularity in the early days. Like most things in K-Pop, it has become more serious and fans hope it becomes more fun and casual like it started as.
