Zico Gets Real On What It's Really Like Working With BLACKPINK's Jennie

BLACKPINK‘s Jennie and Zico collaborated on their chart-topping song “SPOT!”

To promote the song, the latter appeared on the YouTube show KStarNextDoor4. He revealed what he did to convince Jennie to work with him on “SPOT!”

At one point, MC Jonathan wondered what it is like for one famous singer to collaborate with another. He asked him, “What was it like to work with her? Considering what you’re like, you’d push her since you’re a perfectionist.”

Zico replied that he was also curious about their professional synergy considering they were just acquaintances at the time.

We’ve never worked together before. It was our first time. I needed to know what Jennie was like.

According to Zico, the BLACKPINK singer has a very independent style of working. He said that, “She interprets the song on her own,” and this is reflected especially during the recording session.

As the producer of “SPOT,” Zico would normally be suggesting various ways for her to sing her part. Jennie, instead, took the lead the whole time.

She kept trying different directions. Instead of me suggesting to her, after recording various versions, she picked what she liked. I only gave her ideas.

In fact, it was because of her that the melody of the song became more complex. It is now the “SPOT!” that fans know and love today because of Jennie’s help.
