Meet The Artist Who Was Asked To Join INFINITE After An Impromptu Audition
It turns out boy group INFINITE could have debuted with eight members instead of seven!
You may have heard of 28LABORATORY‘s LXX, who originally made his debut in the group HIGH4.
HIGH4 is best known for their hit song “Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms” with IU.
In a recent video with DIVE Studios, LXX dished on the story of how he was scouted by Woollim Entertainment, INFINITE’s company.
Over ten years ago, Woollim Entertainment offered him a deal when he was still living in the United States, and he used it as an excuse to visit Korea for the first time.
It was my first time in Korea. I went straight to Woollim Entertainment, and then the boss sat me down. I had a meeting. I couldn’t understand half the stuff he was talking about ‘coz my Korean was trash then.

Sometime during the meeting, LXX was suddenly asked to audition. He freestyled a dance and rapped a verse he had made before.
And they brought me to a basement. There’s a camera, and he’s like, ‘Alright, do what you gotta do. Can you sing?’ I was like, ‘No‘. ‘Well can you dance?‘ I’m like, ‘Yeah I can dance‘. He just turned a song and I freestyled. And then he’s like, ‘Can you rap?‘ I just rapped one of my verses.

Right after he performed, he was handed a contract and asked to join INFINITE.
We went back up, and he just slipped me a contract. He’s like, ‘I’m making a group called INFINITE, and I want you to be a part of it.’ I was confused. I just landed here 2 hours ago, and now you want me to sign a contract.

LXX instinctively knew that he was going to refuse the offer, not even bothering to tell the boss and instead simply walking out of the building!
So he went to the bathroom, and I just left. I was like, ‘Alright. I’m out. I’m leaving.’ So I just walked out the building and I went back to my mom’s place.

When asked if he regrets his decision because of how popular INFINITE ended up becoming, he immediately denied it: “No, not at all. That wasn’t really what I was going for. I was more into hip hop type of music.”
LXX is undoubtedly a rare talent to have been offered a spot in a group after improvising his audition!
