The 2nd Generation K-Pop Leader Who Would Cry When The Group Trended Online
Most K-Pop groups have a designated leader whose job is to connect the team and represent them to the management and public. They are usually responsible members who have a strong commitment to the group as a whole.
When it comes to the second generation of K-Pop, one of the most recognizable leaders is Super Junior‘s Leeteuk. He is the oldest out of 10 members and has been supporting them since their debut in 2005.
In an interview with MBC‘s Radio Star, fellow member Heechul looked back on their past together. He recounted the times Leeteuk would obsessively scour the internet for mentions of the group.
I used to share a room with Leeteuk, and he always searched for stuff while I just played games.
— Heechul
When one of their many scandals popped up, the leader would be so upset that he’d cry.
I would lie down, and Leeteuk would [jump up and] I’d ask what’s wrong. Some Super Junior scandal popped up. Leeteuk would cry as he read it.
— Heechul
Super Junior has had numerous scandals over the years. Ranging from members leaving the group to hit-and-run accidents, they have had news related to them that could have ended smaller groups. It’s no surprise, therefore, that Leeteuk was worried about their fate each time.
One particular moment that wasn’t named scared him the most. The group was once again trending on social media…for a bad reason.
And one day, we were at home, and suddenly he said, ‘Heechul, we’re actually screwed this time.’ It was another scandal.
— Heechul
Everyone could agree that Leeteuk is a sensitive leader who is highly committed to the group.
