These announcements were met with mixed reactions from fans, some of which reportedly led to the break up of Karina and Lee Jae Wook. Initial reports stated the break-up occurred partially due to malicious comments.
While the pair were met with general dating-related comments, many netizens criticized Lee Jae Wook’s appearance, and Ryu Jun Yeol was met with similar comments.
As with most topics on K-Pop Twitter, the idea of beautiful women dating less attractive men became a joke, with a fan even telling G-IDLE‘s Miyeon not to date ugly men during a fan call event.

Recently, a fourth-generation idol gained attention for returning the same advice to her fan!
Girl group PURPLE KISS debuted in 2020 and recently came back with “BBB.”
As part of the promotions for the release, the group have held video call events. During one video call event with member Swan, a fan held up a sign that read, “Please don’t date ugly men.”
Swan laughed before asking the fan if she knew what it meant. After the fan confirmed, Swan said, “Thank you, but I think it is not a joke,” while continuing to laugh. The idol then told the fan, “you too,” while making a more jokingly serious face.
