East of Eden aired in 2008 and was under fire for its lead actress, Lee Da Hae, leaving the cast halfway.
There were many speculations on why this happened, such as behind-the-scenes drama between castmates or even reasons involving other scandals.
However, Lee Da Hae explained herself on the show’s online forum that she highly disagreed with the direction the story was going and could no longer understand her character.
At first, many believed that her reasonings for exiting the drama early were unprofessional and selfish. However, soon, more castmates follow her lead and leave the show as well.
Park Geun Hyung, Jeong So Young and Jeong Young Sook slowly left the show after Lee Da Hae’s exit. Despite having relatively small roles, the family of Lee Da Hae’s character was written off, and it was said it was unnecessary to keep them with their central character gone.
Lee Da Hae had been involved in a number of scandals since the start of her career. From plastic surgery allegations, to prostitution rings, some of these scandals lead some to question whether it was the reason she left the show or not.
A few years earlier, Lee Da Hae was involved in a scandal in which it’s believed she “cursed” a soccer team.
In 2006, she appeared at a game to support the Suwon Samsung Bluewings. She allegedly gave a thumbs-up to the players, which many believed caused them to lose. In 2007, she visited another Suwon Samsung Bluewings game, where the team she was supporting lost again.
In a game between Daejeon Citizen and Suwon Samsung Bluewings, Lee Da Hae was not present and the latter of the two won the game. The team recognized this as a “curse” and never invited Lee Da Hae to their events again.
In 2023, Lee Da Hae married her long time boyfriend, singer Se7en.
The ceremony was attended by Se7en’s labelmates at YG Entertainment, such as Big Bang members, former labelmate CL, and more.
