BIGBANG G-Dragon’s “Best-Selling” Song Was Written After He Got Dumped On A Blind Date

He was only 19 years old at the time.

As G-Dragon revealed on fellow BIGBANG member Daesung‘s YouTube channel, each song he ever produces for the group is special in his heart because it reminds him of the memories from when he worked on the song and when the group promoted it together.

But when it came down to the song that had been the most profitable, G-Dragon had two that came to his mind.

When Daesung asked which of the BIGBANG songs brought him the most income, G-Dragon first explained that it’s difficult to know which song brings how much. After revealing that he gets paid in a lump sum for whichever of his 165+ registered songs earn profit for the annual term, G-Dragon then pointed out there are two songs that he does know to have been the highest earning from their noraebang (karaoke) performances…

The funny thing is that, if I had registered just one song, I can make the comparison. But, if the songs keep piling up every year, I can’t know the copyright fee for each song. I can only know the total. So, there can be a difference depending on how many songs were active in a certain year. The only thing I remember is the songs that ranked number one in karaoke rooms…

…which both turned out to be Daesung’s solo songs, “Look At Me, Gwisoon” and “A Big Hit!”

According to G-Dragon, “Look At Me, Gwisoon” came after he was “dumped” on a blind date.

In 2007, BIGBANG guested on a KMTV program called Idol World. In one of the segments parodying Thrilling Blind Date, a popular Mnet blind date show at the time, the members went on a blind date with a woman named Um Gwi Seon.

After being eliminated from the blind date rounds (against former member Seungri)…

…”heartbroken” 19-year-old G-Dragon came up with a rough version of “Look At Me, Gwisoon” on the spot.

The song later became a full-blown solo comeback for Daesung, which then became a noraebang-favorite for Koreans!
