BLACKPINK’s Jennie And A Famous 90s Supermodel Wore The Same “Met Gala” Dress But Served Totally Different Vibes
BLACKPINK‘s Jennie is a fashion icon, representing brands worldwide with her outstanding and model-level visuals.
Of her many partnerships, her ambassadorship with Chanel is one of her most iconic. Known as “human Chanel,” the brand often spoils the star, even giving her a custom outfit to wear on stage during her performances.
Because of her iconic status, Jennie was invited to attend the famous Met Gala, an annual event taking place at New York Metropolitan Museum. One of the biggest nights in fashion, the annual event hosts hundreds of celebrities who dress to fit the theme of the evening.
This year’s theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty,” in tribute to the late designer who headed Fendi and Chanel.
Jennie was one of the final muses selected by Lagerfeld before his death, making her the perfect person for this occasion.
This was cemented even further by her outfit, a redesign of a vintage dress made by Lagerfeld himself.
In 1990, the Fall/Winter Ready To Wear collection hit the runway and presented many stunning looks. One of the standouts from the collection was Look 164 worn by Dutch model Marpessa Hennink.
Hennick was accessorized with large earrings, something extremely fashionable at the time, and a black headband and choker.
Jennie’s rendition of the look was extremely similar, with a few key differences. For one, the choker Jennie wore was much smaller, reflecting a change in fashion over the years.
The BLACKPINK star also wore a flower in her hair instead of a solid headband, adding a new spin to the look. Jennie also wore a single small bow earring from Chanel’s fine jewelry collection, retailing for over $20,000 USD.
While similar and beautiful, these looks have slight differences that are indicators of fashion changing through time. Do you have a version you prefer?
