BLACKPINK Lisa’s “Rockstar” Music Video Was Even More Inclusive Than The Final Cut Showed
BLACKPINK‘s Lisa made her solo debut with “Rockstar” on June 28 KST.
It was hinted even prior to the release that she wanted to showcase a variety of personalities and characters on screen. Included in the casting call were 70 people who are “male, female, or LGBTQ for the music video.”
- Group of Motorbikers – 1,500 Baht (around $40 USD)
- Group of (kid) skateboarders – 3,000 Baht (around $350 USD)
- LGBTQ/Drag Queens – 5,000 Baht – 8,000 Baht (around $135 to $215 USD), but the price was to be confirmed later.
- Other actors (focusing on unique characters, not necessarily visuals of being beautiful/handsome) – 1,500 Baht – 3,000 Baht (around $40 to $80 USD), but the price was to be confirmed later.
They were briefly seen in the music video, with three transgender women grabbing the spotlight.
However, as seen in the behind the scenes video, there were many more drag queens and other “unique” people who were not shown in the final cut.
As one staff member explained, “The scene is giving all of Thailand, all flavors, all everything. We love representation.”
Lisa was praised once more for prioritizing representation in the video. Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to commend how she “included a diverse range fo people in her MV” including “bikers, LGBTQ+, tattoo artists, boxers, traditional Thai makeup and 100 Thai dancers in her first MV in her solo comeback.” Because of this “the representation [was] so amazing.”
