Here Is How BTS’s Jungkook And GOT7’s Yugyeom Formed The Iconic ‘97-Liner Squad
K-Pop’s famous ’97-liner squad is a friend group of idols born in 1997 consisting of BTS‘s Jungkook, GOT7‘s BamBam and Yugyeom, ASTRO‘s Cha Eunwoo, SEVENTEEN‘s The8, DK, and Mingyu, and NCT‘s Jaehyun. BamBam and Yugyeom once shared in a radio interview who they thought were the most and least active members on the squad’s group chat, but they also gave an account of how they all became friends in the first place.
According to Yugyeom, he and Jungkook were the first to become good friends. The squad then got its start when he and Jungkook started looking to collect other ’97-liners…
…beginning with SEVENTEEN’s ’97 line, whom Jungkook befriended first. Then, according to Yugyeom, since Jungkook had brought Mingyu, The8 and DK into the fold, he said he’d also invite BamBam to join the group.
Jaehyun came in later, seeing as he had attended high school together with DK.
Although, DK once hilariously claimed that he wasn’t actually close with Jaehyun during their school days, and that even after they both debuted he was too scared to speak to him—for a rather relatable reason.
Cha Eunwoo was one of the last to join the ’97-liner squad, and he was brought in due to his friendship with Mingyu.
Now, these idols are all good friends who regularly hang out, have meals together, and give each other expensive gifts! Peak squad goals, if you ask us. Hopefully we get to see more of them soon!
