Here’s The Story Behind Twitter’s Latest “Thumbs-Up Jungkook Thank You” Trend

It all started with a photo…

Shortly after BTS closed doors to their Osaka Magic Shop, a fan meeting held in Japan on December 15, 2019, they tweeted a group photo — in which Jungkook held his thumb up.

And with this, an ARMY created a “Thumbs-Up Jungkook” meme:

Congratulations! You’ve been blessed by the Ddabong-Jungkook. Reply with “Ddabong-Jungkookah Gomawo” for good luck and good health for you and all your loved ones.

— Cheeky ARMY

Soon, Twitter saw the hashtag “Thumbs-Up Jungkook Thank You” trend in Korea…

… as ARMYs hoped for good luck and good health on Earth!

Thumbs-up Jungkook, thank you!

— Blessed ARMYs

In case you’re wondering, the Korean term ddabong signifies the thumbs-up gesture and is derived from the Portuguese phrase tá bom which is short for está bom. And just like the Portuguese phrase means “It’s fine”, the Korean ddabong has come to mean “Good” as well.

And this entire ddabong-ness actually comes from another tremendously popular meme of the Ddabong-Dochi, or the “Thumbs-Up Hedgehog”, that swept the internet!

Congratulations! You’ve been blessed by the Ddabong-Dochi. Reply with “Ddabong-Dochiya Gomawo” for good luck and good health for you and all your loved ones.

And ARMYs are in love the “Thumbs-Up Jungkook” variation of this Thumbs-Up Hedgehog. After all, Jungkook does hold up his thumbs quite often. Here are some of the cutest Ddabong-Jungkook variations:

And now that you’ve seen this, you’ve been blessed by both Ddabong-Jungkook and Ddabong-Dochi. No need to reply, you’re already bound for double the happiness.
