Data Analyst Explains Why LE SSERAFIM Will Be A Legendary Girl Group
There are many factors that go into what makes a K-Pop group successful including album streams and sales, and the popularity of the group.
Korea Music Contents Association (KMCA)‘s secretary-general, Choi Kwang Ho recently broke down why he believes LE SSERAFIM will likely become an iconic and representative girl group using data from the group’s first album release.
Choi first begins by introducing the group and stating why data indicates that they had a successful start. He points out that Sakura and Kim Chaewon‘s (both former IZ*ONE members) inclusion in the group has aided in initial interest and popularity.
She (Sakura) was possibly one of the most influential ticketing members (of IZ*ONE). We can therefore assume that, despite being a rookie group, LE SSERAFILM already had a boost from some of the leading members here.

However, he then states that just because the group has a strong fanbase, does not mean that equates to good streaming results with the general public. Presenting a chart that is complied with streaming information from Melon, Genie, FLO, VIBE, and BUGS, Choi shows the first 30 days of streaming results of LE SSERAFIM’s “Fearless.”
According to Choi, the continued upward growth of the group’s streaming results indicates public interest and not just fandom streaming. After member Garam‘s suspension from activities, the group saw a sharper increase in streams as well.
Compared to other 4th generation girl groups, LE SSERAFIM is found to be slightly above average when it comes to streams. He also found that on average, 4th gen groups’ sell about 210,000 physical albums over the first six weeks, while LE SSERFIM sold over 400,000 units.
Choi also indicated that top idol groups must have both good streams and good album sales to be considered as that.
What do the idols at the hightst level actually have in common and what is ideal? They have a really good score with this one (streams) and as well as in this one (physical album sales).

Finally, Choi uses a daily listener chart for the group’s title track “Fearless” show display the song’s performance over thirty days. The track’s daily listeners increased over the time period and continued to grow.
According to Choi, this also indicates that LE SSERAFIM has a strong listenership in the general population rather than just fans. Normally with idol groups, the listenership and streams will decrease a few days after release.
Choi concludes by saying that LE SSERAFIM’s album release was successful, and if they continue their success, “they’ll most likely become one of the girls representing K-Pop idol groups.”
