The Downside Of Trainees Performing Senior Artists’ Songs From The Same Company, According To TREASURE

Jihoon breaks down the potential disadvantages.

The TREASURE members recently took MC JaeJae through the YG Entertainment trainee experience in a recent episode of the variety show MMTG.

During the episode, Jihoon and Junkyu met JaeJae in the lobby of the YG building, taking her through a step-by-step day in the life of a YG Entertainment trainee.

After meeting the new rookie development team, turning in her cell phone to limit distractions, greeting fellow TREASURE members, and reporting to the practice rooms, JaeJae prepared for her “monthly training evaluation” as an honorary trainee.

JaeJae, Jihoon, and Junkyu were joined by TREASURE’s Jeongwoo and Jaehyuk in the practice room, and JaeJae sought the TREASURE members’ advice on what song she should perform for her evaluation.

Jaehyuk suggested that JaeJae choose a song by their famous sunbaes BLACKPINK, but while they have countless hit songs to choose from, Jihoon cautioned against trainees using a song from a senior artist within the same company.

Jihoon, one of TREASURE’s two talented leaders, explained that trainees should approach covering a senior artist within the same company cautiously because it will inevitably set them up for comparison.

He thoughtfully reasoned that the judges for the monthly evaluations are likely the same staff members who helped foster the senior artists’ talent and career, making it easier to spot any weaknesses in the trainees’ performance.

Instead, JaeJae practiced Sam Smith and Kim Petras‘ song “Unholy” before performing TREASURE’s “BONA BONA” as a group since she had training from the TREASURE members themselves.
