Former Idol Turned Into A Paint Technician After Unexpectedly Becoming A Father

A former K-Pop idol recently appeared on MBN‘s entertainment program, Exclusive World, and shared the story of how he went from a boy group member to becoming a paint technician.

In 2014, Oh Jimin achieved his dream of becoming an idol as he debuted as member of the group BTL with the stage name, Allen. The group was active for a little over a year and unfortunately disbanded on December 31, 2015. In 2023, they were confirmed to participate in JTBC‘s Peak Time with four of the eight original members. They, however, got eliminated on episode two.

While some of his bandmates tried to give their idol dreams a second chance with Peak Time, Oh has completely shifted paths and now works in the construction industry as a painter. The former idol shared that he was scared to go further invest into a K-Pop career and instead enlisted in the military after BTL disbanded.

Even the idols that I thought would do well fell flat, so I was scared of going any further.

While he was in the military, Oh met his current wife and the two started dating. Two months before his discharge, they had a child together. Since it was an unplanned pregnancy, it was a heavy decision for him to pick what he wanted to do next in life. Oh recalled that he became certain that he wanted to step up as a father to the best of his abilities when his wife, who was then his girlfriend, offered to raise the child on her own.

I couldn’t tell her to get rid of the baby. But my wife told me to go my way and that she would raise the child alone. Hearing that, my mind changed.

The two ended up starting their own family as husband and wife. Determined to take responsibility for his family, Oh changed his career path and now works as a paint technician at a construction site.

It’s been two years since I’ve become a paint technician. I went to a paint store near my house and asked for a job.

Oh is now also a proud father of two children that he is raising with his wife.

While his life has taken a sharp turn from his K-Pop idol days, Oh Jimin, aka Allen, has shown what it looks like to step up to the plate!
