(G)I-DLE’s Minnie Reveals How Her Mother Encouraged Her To Become An Idol
(G)I-DLE‘s Minnie recently took the time for an interview with Harper’s BAZAAR Thailand where she opened up about her tough journey to becoming the successful idol she is today!
Like every big dream, you have to take risks and work hard, and that’s exactly what Minnie did. When asked about the details of her journey to becoming an idol, Minnie shared that while she always loved music.
Even before the debut, I was in love with music. Like playing the piano and singing and I studied them since I was a child. So when I was in grade 11, there was an audition at my tutoring institute. So I went for the audition and they came back to me.

While Minnie’s childhood passions and her successful audition pointed her in the direction of becoming a singer, there was a lot to think about. Of course, moving to Korea and train as an idol is a huge risk and Minnie wasn’t sure if she should go to college or chase her dreams.
At that time in Grade 11, I have just 1 more year to finish school. At that time I really wanted to go to a university at the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University. That was my plan to study at a Thai university. The idea of being an artist in Korea wasn’t in my mind. But when I got the opportunity, I had a tough decision to make. Will I take the risk in Korea? Or stay here in Thailand?

Minnie had a huge decision to make, however, after a talk with her parents, Minnie was able to choose which path she should take.
I had discussed it with my parents. I can say that it was the biggest decision of my life. I didn’t know if this would work, but my mom said, ‘You got the chance that many people wanted so badly. If I say no to this opportunity, it would be unfortunate so let’s give it a go. If you don’t like it, you can just come back.’ I liked it and I stayed there for a long time.

(G)I-DLE celebrated their 3rd anniversary back on May 3, so clearly, Minnie is thriving in her career!
It’s been 3 years, just turned 3 years last week (from the day of the interview). I had been trainig for over 3 years and have debuted for 3 years. So, I have lived in Korea for over 6 years.
