Girl Group Star Exposes Agency For Placing CCTV Cameras In Their Dorm

During her most recent appearance on the popular YouTube channel CONSO, Laboum‘s Yujeong revealed that their agency had strict rules and kept a close eye on the members via CCTV cameras placed in their dorm.

Yujeong appeared on the show alongside another girl group star, Lovelyz‘ Ryu Soo Jung. When talking about how close the two groups and their members were back in the day, they revealed that it was hard to stay in touch because they were not allowed to have phones at the time.
Host: Laboum and Lovelyz are actually all close?
Ryu Soo Jung: Back when we were promoting, doing music shows for a long time was just the norm. Both our groups would promote for, like, two months straight every time we had a comeback. So it was like, “Comeback, promote. Comeback, promote.” Since we were always going back and forth and greeting each other, we naturally became close. But both groups didn’t have phones at the time, so it wasn’t like we could hang out properly and become super close then.
Yujeong: That only really happened after the seven-year contracts ended.
Host: Wait, so for seven years, you weren’t allowed to use a phone at all?
Ryu Soo Jung: No, for us it was about four years.
Host: Now that it’s all over and in the past, Can you honestly say “I didn’t use a phone even once during those four years”?
RyuSooJung: Not once.
Yujeong: They told us not to, so I didn’t.

The host then recalled that Laboum member Yulhee had admitted to being in a relationship with FT Island‘s Choi Minhwan back in 2017. She then had a premarital marriage, which caused her to leave the group. The host questioned how the relationship had been possible without a phone.
Yujeong : She had a hidden phone and got caught.
Host: Oh, so it was like that?
Host #2: Yeah, she basically bought a burner phone, tucked it under her pillow or something… and eventually got caught.
Ryu Soo Jung: That kind of thing wouldn’t fly these days.

Following the relationship talk, Yujeong then revealed their agency’s rules regarding dating. She confessed that the girl group members were so closely monitored that CCTV cameras were installed in their shoe cabinet.
Yujeong: Back then, there weren’t specific clauses banning relationships or anything like that, but the company was super strict. They even had CCTV cameras in the dorm’s shoe cabinet to check whether we were going out or not. During our first year, I remember once I just wanted to get some bubble tea, so I went out briefly. But the company called me in and grilled me like, “Where did you go?” That’s how closely we were monitored.

The unexpected revelation stunned the hosts and the other stars present in the show. You can watch the full episode below.
