Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon Shares COVID-19’s Impact On Her DJ Career And More

COVID-19 has setback many artists’ activities and continues to do so.

Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon appeared as a guest on today’s episode of Radio Star. She discussed how her career as a DJ has been affected by the spread of COVID-19. Lately, she promotes as “DJ Hyo” at clubs and EDM festivals.

I recently went to Taiwan, which has had very few COVID-19 cases. I was invited by the Taiwanese government for a major event, but a variant of COVID-19 was suddenly confirmed in Taiwan. So, the event was changed to no longer be in-person. I still did some DJ-ing and performed ‘Dessert’.

She had gotten many invitations to perform as a DJ in other countries, including the Netherlands, a place she always dreamed of performing at. “It’s considered the birthplace of DJs, and I was fortunate enough to get to perform there. It was in front of a lot of famous producers. I was a newbie, so they only gave me 30 minutes, but I showed everything I could. The reaction was pretty good.

She confessed that she had often thought about changing her full-time job to being a DJ. She even went so far as to send a long message to Lee Soo Man (the founder of SM Entertainment) about her dreams and passions.

Hyoyeon has been a part of SM Entertainment since she was 12 years old, so she is often asked if she will become a member of the board of directors at the company.

[TVXQ’s] Yunho would definitely become a member first. Whenever there was a company dinner after an SMTOWN concert, Yunho and some other people would always be sitting near Lee Soo Man. Yunho, TVXQ’s Changmin, and SHINee’s Minho are the diligent members of that club.
