Girls’ Generation’s Photos With Marijuana Go Viral

What a throwback!

Within the K-Pop fandom, many insider jokes and stories have become lore or forgotten due to time. The creation of “icebergs” has helped fans learn “rare” knowledge about their faves.

An “iceberg” moment for one girl group recently resurfaced following an ambassador announcement for a completely different group.

In early May, aespa were named honorary ambassadors for Incheon International Airport as part of a collaboration between the airport and SM Entertainment.

This is separate from NewJeans‘s public relations ambassador appointment, which was announced in March 2023. NewJeans took over the ambassadorship of Incheon Airport Headquarters Customs from the previous models, BLACKPINK.

The news made headlines as this changed who “greets” travelers as they enter Korea.

However, before both of these groups were given the position, Girls’ Generation were actually the first appointed.

In addition to a photoshoot at the airport in 2010, the group were given a more hands-on demonstration of what customs does.

Customs at airports are responsible for the safe and legal flow of visitors into and out of a country. Their duties include checking for weapons and other prohibited items, like certain foods.

However, Girls’ Generation did not deal with a prohibited food item, but rather an illegal drug!

In photos from the event, the members can be seen holding bags of what appears to be marijuana before dumping them into a disposal bin.
