“The Glory” Actor Lee Do Hyun Shares He Broke Up With A Girlfriend Because Of His Acting
The success of Netflix‘s The Glory has launched many actors into the spotlight, including Lee Do Hyun, who plays the role of Joo Yeo Jeong or Song Hye Kyo‘s love interest.
Lee Do Hyun recently gained attention for confirming his relationship after being spotted on a date with fellow The Glory co-star Lim Ji Yeon, who played the perpetrator that bullied and abused Song Hye Kyo’s character.
Although he is currently in a happy relationship with Lim Ji Yeon, in the past, he has made some questionable decisions in his love life. In an old interview from 2019 with Esquire, Lee Do Hyun answered questions about his career and life.
He mentioned that he often doesn’t watch the shows he acts in because he knows he can act better but can do nothing about it. He also said he doesn’t check comments complimenting him because he doesn’t want to get big-headed.
Following this, he was asked if he did this because his mind was weak or because he didn’t want anything to affect his acting. He said it was the latter and that he even broke up with a girlfriend because of his acting.
He takes his career very seriously. I think it’s the latter. I don’t like my acting being influenced because to me, acting is my number one priority. Once, I even broke up with my girlfriend because of acting. My role in the performance was a character who carried the pain of missing a woman he loved. So I broke up with her in order to be able to act like that. I really don’t know why I did that back then…

When asked how old he was when this happened, he said he was in his early twenties and that he had grown a lot since then.
I think I was about 21 or 22. Of course, my girlfriend didn’t understand and asked if I’m crazy. But acting came first for me then. The performance ended up being a failure. (Laughs) Anyway, I think I grew a lot through trials and errors like these.

Hearing that he sacrificed his relationship just because of an acting role shows how passionate Lee Do Hyun is about his career—and it showed with his phenomenal performance as Joo Yeo Jeong in The Glory.
