Gong Yoo’s “I Want To Sleep With You” Confession Received Totally Different Reactions On Set
Netflix‘s new Korean melodrama The Trunk is changing viewers’ perceptions of what “K-Drama” means in 2024. Its emotionally raw story has elicited big reactions from viewers, but also from the show’s cast and crew.
Although The Trunk has made headlines for its sexually explicit moments, the series also has more subdued, tender scenes featuring Seo Hyun Jin as No In Ji (a contract marriage provider) and Gong Yoo as Han Jeong Won (a lonely music producer). In one of these scenes, Jeong Won makes a straightforward confession. He tells In Ji, “…I think I want to sleep with you.”
According to Seo Hyun Jin, this line left a strong impression on viewers, but also on The Trunk‘s staff.
Gong Yoo posed a question–“How would a woman feel after hearing this?”–that started a conversion on set. Gong Yoo acknowledged that it would’ve been difficult for his character to muster the courage to say such a thing to In Ji. “I mean, saying it could make him seem nuts,” he said.
Seo Hyun Jin said that the confession left male staff members in disbelief. “Most of the male staff members couldn’t believe anyone would say such a thing while perfectly sober,” she explained. Most of the female staff members had a completely opposite reaction. They said, “It’s actually better to hear him say it sober.”
Gong Yoo agreed with the female staff members. He also advised viewers not to make reckless confessions like Jeong Woo’s in real life. “Take the other person into account,” Seo Hyun Jin added.
